Feel Good Salina No. 1

Good morning, Salina. With so much noise in the regular news, we wanted one quiet, happy place that simply notices what is going right. This first edition is a prototype — short on purpose, local on purpose, and glad to be here.

Community Wins

Movies are coming back downtown

B&B Theatres plans a nine-screen cinema and restaurant sharing space with The Alley, alongside Salina 2020’s larger downtown revitalization that already includes family entertainment and the American Classics Auto Museum. Opening is targeted for 2028, and it is another sign that people want to gather in the heart of town. Source: KSN

Theatre Salina keeps growing its home for the arts

City commissioners approved using downtown TIF tools to support Theatre Salina’s expansion, and the company has been planning new dance and performance studios. More sprung floors and rehearsal rooms mean more kids and adults get a place to practice joy. Source: Salina311 / city coverage

Jobs and training keep landing here

Schwan’s finished a 400,000-square-foot pizza-plant expansion, Kubota broke ground on a $30 million equipment test center, and K-State Salina continues growing aerospace and technology programs. People are moving toward opportunity, and Salina is building the housing and classrooms to meet them. Source: Salina Living

Ribbon cutting on Santa Fe tomorrow

The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a Starbucks Downtown ribbon cutting Thursday at 10 a.m. at 257 S. Santa Fe. It is a grand reopening of a remodeled space — a simple, cheerful excuse to walk downtown and clap for a local crew. Source: Chamber / AllEvents

A classic airplane found a new museum home

A bright red 1950 Piper PA-20 Pacer was towed from the K-State Salina aviation shop to the Garage Automotive Museum. Not every city gets to watch a piece of flying history roll down the street on its way to being loved in public. Source: KSAL

Free listing: celebrate 45 years at the Rescue Mission banquet

Salina Rescue Mission invites the community to its annual fundraising banquet on September 15 at Webster Conference Center, with a noon luncheon and a 6:30 p.m. dinner. RSVP by August 28. Music from Cornerstone Classical School’s choir. This is the kind of long faithfulness worth showing up for.

The city is hosting its third Accessibility Seminar

Making shops, sidewalks, and services easier for everyone is one of the quietest kindnesses a town can practice. The City of Salina’s seminar is a practical gathering for businesses and neighbors who want to get that right. Source: Salina Post / City of Salina
