Free for genuine service
Service opportunity posting guidelines
If you are organizing a way for Salina to help Salina, you can ask for a free listing. The Service Board exists so volunteer shifts, donation drives, meal service, mentoring, and community care do not have to compete with paid ads.
What qualifies as free
- 501(c)(3) nonprofits, churches, schools, and civic groups based in or serving Saline County
- Time-bound volunteer needs: packing food, coaching youth, reading with kids, event setup, disaster cleanup
- Donation drives for food, coats, school supplies, blood, hygiene items
- Free community services: clinics, haircut days, backpack giveaways, senior check-ins
What is not free
- For-profit hiring, ticketed entertainment, or product sales (see paid rates)
- Political campaigning, petition drives that exist to elect or defeat a candidate
- Fundraising galas that are primarily paid-seat events (a short public note may still run as news)
- Requests that shame, attack, or single out private individuals
How to submit
- Email [email protected] or use the story form and choose a service need.
- Include organization name, date/time, place, who can help, what to bring, and a contact.
- Keep it to 60 words. We may shorten kindly.
- One active free listing per organization per week, unless a genuine emergency.
Editorial standards
We may decline or delay a listing if the inbox is full of paid mission-aligned ads that day, if details are incomplete, or if the request falls outside Salina / Saline County. We do not guarantee publication date. We never sell the Service Board.
